The Value of CAE-C and the CAE as a Community

More than two decades ago, the National Security Agency (NSA) established the Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (CAE-C) program to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure. It does this by promoting higher education and research in cybersecurity to ensure that the next generation of cybersecurity graduates and educators are highly competent. The mission of the CAE-C is to enable a collaborative environment of higher educational institutions focused on cybersecurity that:

  1. Establishes standards for cybersecurity curriculum and academic excellence
  2. Includes competency development among students and faculty
  3. Values community outreach and leadership in professional development
  4. Actively pursues solutions to challenges facing cybersecurity education.

This talk will provide an overview of three key areas of the CAE program. First, a discussion will briefly outline the new PoS Validation criteria and the benefits associated with assessing and strengthening the quality of the cybersecurity PoS to promote competent graduates. Next, highlights of the new PoS Validation and CAE Designation criteria will be provided to illustrate the leadership values in cybersecurity education that produce exceptional graduates to meet US cybersecurity workforce needs. Then, the value of achieving a CAE Designation will be discussed, along with the associated benefits of being a member of the CAE community. An overview of the ongoing initiatives for the CAE Community of Practice (CoP) for Cyber Defense (CD), along with several current resources for CAEs, will be provided. The session will end with an open Q&A session.
