Cybersecurity faculty are in demand across the nation! The Faculty Fellowship Program will introduce participants who are 'new to teaching' to the career path of teaching cybersecurity in a community college setting.
Who should apply:
- Retired or separated military personnel from any branch of service.
- Industry professionals with a minimum of 5 years of experience in cybersecurity or related fields (those holding cybersecurity industry certifications like CISSP or CISA are strongly encouraged).
All applicants must also meet the following criteria:

- Applicant must have completed or in final year of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a cybersecurity or STEM program from a regionally accredited institution.
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident residing in the U.S.or a U.S. territory.
- Interested in bringing your real-world experience to the classroom by serving as a community college faculty member.
- Applicants from underrepresented groups in cybersecurity are encouraged to apply.
- This workshop is not for:

- Current or past K-12, college, or university faculty. (NOT ELIGIBLE)
- Individuals with formal teacher education or significant teaching experience.

About the Program:
The military/industry program consists of the following:
NCyTE Cybersecurity Fellowship Orientation (4 hours):
All accepted candidates must attend one of the virtual orientations.
Kickstart your journey with a comprehensive virtual orientation designed to introduce you to the dynamic field of cybersecurity education. Discover the significant impact you can have on the nation's workforce through community college teaching. The orientation will also outline expectations, schedule and commitment, and details of the program.
Microsoft 21st Century Skills: Classroom Management, Methods, and Pedagogy Workshop (16 hours):
Prerequisite is completion of the Orientation.
All participants will be required to complete this 16-hour virtual workshop designed to prepare participants with basic knowledge and skills to be an effective community college cybersecurity educator. Participants will acquire insights into teaching and learning pedagogy, classroom management skills, student assessment, curriculum development, and the cultivation of student workforce competencies. The workshop will prepare students to take the required Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) certification.
Advanced Technologies Bootcamp: (32 hours):
Prerequisite is completion of the Microsoft 21st Century Skills workshop.
Participants who successfully complete the first milestone will have the opportunity to enroll in this 32-hour course which will focus on using advanced technologies to engage students in the teaching and learning process. The bootcamp is also designed to demonstrate how advanced technologies can be used to enhance instruction across multiple disciplines. This program will introduce technologies including Cloud services and frameworks (Azure), Artificial Intelligence (Copilot and Azure), IoT, and online collaborative platform (GitHub). The cohort will also demonstrate how NCyTE’s rich library of cybersecurity instructional resources can be used in the classroom across multiple disciplines.
The bootcamp includes two days of in-person instruction at Moraine Valley Community College (mandatory) and five days of virtual instruction.
Teaching Assignment:
Prerequisite is completion of the Advanced Technologies Bootcamp.
Upon successful completion of all above program, participants will be placed for a teaching assignment, where they will contribute a minimum of 60 hours of service, lead at least one lesson, and provide the required deliverables per a student teaching agreement. Collaborating with their host college supervisor, participants will co-create a schedule and course materials that align with their strengths and goals.

Advanced Technologies Bootcamp (32 hours, all dates required) - virtual & in-person

Teaching assignment at a local community college (minimum of 60 hours). A virtual assignment may be possible if approved with the host college.

Stipends:
Eligible participants will receive a stipend of up to $3,950 based on successful achievement of the following milestones over the course of the program.
- Complete Classroom Practices workshop and submit badge transcript/achievement certificate - $250
- Attempt the Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) certification exam and submit evidence of certification - $250
- Complete the Advanced Technologies Bootcamp (32 hours) and participate in bootcamp activities - $1,000
- Travel per diem: up to $1,200 for two days hotel, meals, and airfare for non-local residents. Must complete a travel support agreement.
- Complete teaching assignments – up to $1,250, participants are required to teach one lesson in a regular community college classroom and provide the required deliverables per a student teaching assistant agreement.
- Provide a current W9 tax form to the NCyTE Center

Facilitators:
Dr. John Sands, Co-PI of NCyTE and Director of the Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance (CSSIA) and professor at Moraine Valley Community College in Chicago, and his team of expert instructors will lead the workshops.
Dr. Kristine Christensen is a professor of Management Information Systems at Moraine Valley Community College. Dr. Christensen also serves as Moraine Valley's Director of Faculty Development and is responsible for designing, developing, and evaluating professional development programs for faculty and staff.
