    2022 Summit

    Invitation Only    |    Registration Required

    NEW DATES: June 26- 28, 2022

    Alexandria, VA

In 2002, the National Science Foundation (NSF) co-sponsored a workshop and resulting report titled Protecting Information: The Role of Community Colleges in Cybersecurity Education. Nearly 20 years later, however, cybersecurity education has evolved dramatically – and along with it the cybersecurity threats and needs of the nation.

The US is facing a growing critical shortage of qualified workers to fill cybersecurity positions across all industries and services. Community colleges have proven to play a vital role in reaching untapped, diverse, potential new student populations to fulfill these positions through innovative student outreach and highly relevant programming.

The 2022 Summit will bring together leaders and stakeholders in cybersecurity education including community college faculty and administrators, corporate partners, and government representatives. Participants from across the nation will examine progress and impact made by community colleges to national and economic security and the workforce since the initial conference in 2002, and will contribute to recommendations for future strategies and initiatives.

As an invited participant, your registration indicates your willingness and commitment to contribute your expertise and perspective throughout the two-day conference. We greatly appreciate your dedication of time and knowledge to the future of cybersecurity education.

COVID-19 NCyTE is actively monitoring the evolving situation related to the novel coronavirus and following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). We encourage invited participants to register today to secure your place. We will notify registrants if any changes in the schedule occur.

Faculty Development Academy on Automobile Security - Car Penetration Testing

Two academies on 8/10 and 8/12. Register for the 8/12 event.
In-person at the STEAM Carnival at Mall of America

        Event Description:

Faculty from both cyber and non-cyber fields, including Automotive Technology, Information Technology, Automation and Manufacturing, and Computer Science are encouraged to attend this event.

Most modern vehicles connect to devices around them through Vehicle to Everything (V2X) technologies. As vehicles advance with more autonomous capabilities, digital systems, and automation, their attack surface increases exponentially, making them increasingly vulnerable to cyber attacks. Automobile hacking is a fascinating area of penetration testing and hacking.

This one-day academy will expand faculty knowledge and the ability to incorporate new cybersecurity content in existing classes. The academy incorporates demonstration and hands-on instruction, emphasizing participants’ ability to re-create workshop conditions in their classroom.  Attendees will need to bring a laptop.

        Academy Objectives:

        • Describe the common vulnerabilities associated with vehicles and autonomous systems.
        • Describe potential impacts of vulnerabilities associated with vehicles and autonomous systems.
        • Describe the communication media used to control vehicles and autonomous systems.
        • Demonstrate the use of vehicles and autonomous vehicle control applications and simulators.
        • Demonstrate attacking vehicles and autonomous systems.
        • Identify types of security measures that work best in automated systems.

        Cyber Security Evaluation Tool (CSET®)

        NCyTE Center Member Meeting

        Friday, August 19, 2022 9:00am - 10:00am (PST)

The Cyber Security Evaluation Tool (CSET®) is a stand-alone desktop application that guides asset owners and operators through a systematic process of evaluating Operational Technology and Information Technology. The Cyber Security Evaluation Tool (CSET®) provides the following:

        1. A framework for analyzing cybersecurity vulnerabilities associated with an organization’s overall industrial control system (ICS) and information technology (IT) architecture.

        2. A consistent and technically sound methodology to identify, analyze, and communicate to security professionals the various vulnerabilities and consequences that may be exploited by cyber means.

        3. The means for the user to document a process for identifying cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

        4. Suggested methods to evaluate options for improvement based on existing Standards and recommended practices.

Vincent Nestler, Ph. D. and Stephen Miller will discuss the use of the CSET tool for the Cyber Career Challenge and a competency statement associated with the use of this tool.
